Southern Alapaha Bulldogs is a family-owned and operated farm located in Middle Tennessee on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau. We raise Alapaha Bulldogs along with Grass-Fed Beef on our farm. We chose to breed Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs because of the temperament or nature thay were known for. I say were because unfortunately most of the "Alapahas" you will find today do not maintain the nature they were known for; stable temperament, loyal companions, hard working all around farm utility dogs, fearless, and great with children. All of our dogs are raised as part of our family around our children, and worked on our farm. We strive to raise healthy, stable, and capable bulldogs true to the original old bulldogs of the south.
Alapahas are highly inteligent and ready to work as a guardian of family and property or a catch dog. They are very loving companions. We love our alapahas and hope you will take a closer look at this amazing breed.
All our pups get socialized with dogs and kids from very early on. We whelp our puppies in our living room so they get early exposure to a busy house with 5 kids.
We do ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) with our puppies until they go to their new homes. ENS has multiple proven health benefits and is used by the U.S. Military for their Service Dogs because it is also proven to help dogs cope with stress and stressful situations better.
We have various temperament testing processes the pups go through to ensure your dog has the correct temperament and drive for what you want them to do, like be a family pet, a catch dog, a protection dog, protect livestock, etc.

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, which has also been known as the Old Southern Bulldog, is the outcome of a comprehensive breeding program. The breeding program is accredited to Lana Lou Lane in the 1970s within the Alapaha River Region of Georgia. The program was meant to preserve the original "Plantation Dogs" of the South. These Old Southern Bulldogs were used for centuries as companions and a "do-all" farm dog, herding and holding unruly cattle, catching wild hogs, protecting the plantation, guarding the family against intruders, as well as protecting livestock against predators.
As a result of many years of selective breeding, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog came into its own when Mrs. Lane contacted the Animal Research Foundation (ARF) in regards to preserving and registering her breed in perpetuity. In 1986 the ARF registered the first Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs that came from her kennel named Circle L Kennels.
The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog was developed by using: White English Bulldog (WEB) or Old Southern White that entered in the USA in the 1700s, Colby Pitbull, Old Southern Bulldog (OSB), and Catahoula Cur aka Catahoula Leopard Dog. It is possible that there were other breeds that were good working plantation dogs used in the earlier years. But these are the basis for the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog breed.
